Job Description
- The sole provider of medical care onboard the ship, a task in which he/her is assisted by the nurse(s).
- Provide medical care to passengers and crew onboard.
- In cahrge of the medical section and ultimately responsible for any action taken by any member of the medical section.
- Ensure that all equipments in the medical centre and emergency medical bags are in good working order and service requirements are carried out per user manual/s and ship's maintenance system.
- Ensure that sufficient level of medication is available onboard and that expiry dates are adhered to.
- Ensure that everyone in the medical section is familiar with and adheres to all Star Cruises policies and procedures applicable to all crew in general and the medical section in particular.
- Train nurses to be familiar with all medications, supplies and equipment.
- Ensure that medical record keeping is carried out in an efficient way and as require by the company. All logbooks are to be updated.
- Iniate investigation in case of any outbreak of food poisoning or in case of any highky contagious outbreaks such as GI or flu.
- Keep all crew medical files in the medical centre. Ensure that each crewmember's medical file includes Star Cruises employment medical form or other approved form.
- Be familiar with all aspects of the ship's emergency plan and own emergency duties.
- Ensure training to crew who require "Basic First Aid" training, according to Star Cruises STCW trainign program, following the schedule arranged by the Safety Manager.
- Assist Safety Manager in investigating the circumstances surrounding accidents onboard which were reported to the medical centre.
- Complete the computerised SSMIS reports for accidents and injuries reported to the medical centre as per Company standard.
- Apply cost control without compromising teh quality of service provided.
- Submit weekly reports to the Staff Captain.
- Doctor's degree with at least 3 years of experience, 2 years of which to be working in an Emergency room and/or intensive care unit.
- Valid National doctor license/s without any remarks and flag state endorsed where applicable.
- Valid ATLS (Advance Trauma Life Support) and ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- very good spokend Chinese and written English.
- Applicants that possess the Safety Training certification as per Star Cruises STCW95 Training Program will have an added advantage
- Trained and certified in specimen collection in connection with drug testing.
