Job Description

1) Lead wildlife operations carried out by WRU.

2) Responsible for veterinary and husbandry care of animals involved in the operations.

3) Act as a team leader, decision maker, in-charge of veterinary drugs and medical equipment, advice and apply all disciplines of veterinary medicine in operations when necessary.

4) To manage and direct WRU Rangers.

5) To assist on veterinary medical checks and monitor rehabilitation process of animals at Wildlife Animal Holding Area and Rescue Centre {WRC), Lok Kawi Wildlife Park (LKWP), Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (SORC), and Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC).

6) To assist in veterinary and husbandry care of all the animals involved in Wildlife Health Unit (WHU) operations, when directed.

7) To assist in wildlife research associated with Sabah Wildlife Department.

8) To assist on any other tasks as directed by the Director of Sabah Wildlife Department.

9) To identify research material for Master programme


  • PREFERABLY SABAHANS, but all Malaysians are welcomed to apply.
  • MUST have a degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and/or Bachelor in Veterinary Science (BVSc) or equivalent.
  • Excellent in writing and verbal communication skills (Bahasa Malaysia and English).
  • Have a valid driving license 
  • Able to work long or odd hours and after working hours when required (on standby).
  • Physically fit to walk long distances and carry heavy equipment during wildlife operations on the field.
  • Able to foster good teamwork during operations.

Company Overview

Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU) was established to provide support to SWD on its efforts to conserve wildlife. As there was not enough manpower and funding for the department to deal with all the wildlife conservation issues in Sabah, WRU assists the department on these issues with its own staff. 


• To undertake wildlife rescue and translocation operations and other conservation activities as directed by the Director of SWD throughout Sabah. 

• To assist in wildlife research programs and other conservation activities initiated by SWD and its partners . 

• To emphasize the importance of wildlife conservation and promote public awareness among the people of Sabah through its activities. 

• To reduce incidents of human-wildlife conflicts throughout Sabah. 

• To assist SWD to carry out wildlife enforcement and monitoring operations
